Sault Area Garden Club Minutes
April 21, 2008

Meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. Phyllis Bigelow brought the missing January minutes to be included both in our record book and on-line. The March minutes were read by Secretary Karen Cook. Jeanne Smith made the motion for minutes approval; AndreeWatson seconded. Approved.

The treasurer’s report included a balance of $1441.68. This includes petty cash of $23.42 and checking of $1418.26. It was approved.

The May 10, St. James Tea was discussed. Seldon Collins said that we should have about seven Garden Club tables in use by our members who will be demonstrating, selling, etc.

Karen Cook announced that Washington school is having a Relay for Life house plant sale. She brought some plants to the meeting. Price is $3 per plant.

Members who will attend the Mackinac City meeting on May 3 should meet in the church parking lot at 7:30 p.m. to share rides. A list of those who are willing to share rides was compiled so no one a minute or two late is left behind.

Our annual plant exchange is May 17, at 10 a.m. in the play park near the 8th Avenue ball fields. Members bring their garden plants which they’d like to exchange with others.

May 19 is our next scheduled meeting. We visit 2 gardens and then meet in the church undercroft for refreshments after the tours. We are to be in the church parking lot by 6 p.m. to car pool to the gardens.

Bev Youngs said we will meet June 4, to make table decorations for the United Way Dinner. All are encouraged to come and help.

We had wonderful apple refreshments (plus other goodies) provided by Diane and Kristin McDonald. I have been coming to the undercroft for over 60 years and can honestly say it has never smelled so heavenly!

Linda Stoetzer-Carrick gave an interesting talk about growing apple trees. She has some new trees which are doing well in her yard after this past winter’s deep snow.

Raffle gifts were provided by Diane and Kristin McDonald. Many of us went home with new pansy plants nicely tied in paper and ribbon.

Karen asked that we remember and patronize the summer concerts at our LSSU Arts Center.

Recorded by Phyllis Bigelow, co-secretary
