September 18, 2006

The September meeting of the Sault Area Garden Club was called to order at 7:25 by President Kate Marshall at the St. James Church. Twenty seven members and guests were present.

Scholarship recipient, Drew Afton spoke to club members. He talked primarily about his interest in native fruits, especially the pawpaw, service berries, and persimmons. He described how his family uses the farm market approach to selling their product.

Minutes from the August meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was not available.

Three members shared some of their unusual gardening products. Kate Marshall showed an arrangement consisting of Sedum, Canadian Anemone, ornamental grasses and orchid, Ruth Molino showed Sea Lavender, and Linda Carrick brought in a lemon cucumber.

Linda Beaumont provided new covers for our garden club notebooks. New membership lists, and other information will be provided at future meetings. She will be assisted by Andree Watson and Fran Pruess.

Chris Roll and Marcy Misner will organize refreshments and Jeannie Cooper will organize raffle items for the coming year.

Bev Youngs and Carol Askwith talked about the monthly programs for the coming year.

There will be a work bee at the locks park from 2-5 on Sunday Sept. 24th.

Emily Grenfell collected orders for a bulk bulb order.

Members are encouraged to bring a glue gun, wire and pliers for the October meeting. We will be working on fall swags. Any unusual items that have been preserved or dried would be welcomed.

Refreshments were provided by Roth Molino, Gayle Johnson and Dorothy Rich.

Members proceeded with the seed exchange and the meeting was adjourned at 9 p.m.

Nancy Fenlon, Secretary
